Sitges Celebrates Corpus Cristi with a huge popular flower festival, particulary celebrating carnations. This year it will be running from the 9-17 of June. Proudly enjoyed by the people of Sitges, this event finds its mos spectuacular expression in the flower carpet contest, deemed to be of “National tourist interest”.
The participants turn to the streets in a show of incredible colours, and they compete for their street to be declared the most beautiful carpet in Sitges. Families normally start the night before working throughout the night to prepare these amazing works of ‘living art’
The first record of this beautiful Sitges tradition dates back to 1887, and today around 360,000 carnations are used in its preparation, in addition to other types of flowers. Corpus Cristi in Sitges also marks the start of the high season in Sitges.
