- Have you heard of Caga Tio? -

Image001

Have you heard of Caga Tio ( the pooping uncle? ) It is a Catalonian tradition that is celebrated by children during the holiday season. The first day of Caga tio is the feast of the immaculate conception ( dec 8 ). He is normally a piece of wood with two front legs and a face painted on it too. He is kept as a pet for the rest of the holiday season continually growing as the days go by ( the parents usually hide a few different sizes around the house. However, Caga tio only grows if the children keep Caga Tio warm and safe.

When Christmas eve arrives the children place Caga Tio in the center of the room with a red red blanket over the back end.  . Children gather around the Caga Tio with sticks and hit him. They hit him over and over and sing wonderful classic holiday songs (that we all know and love) such as

caga tió, caga torró, avellanes i mató, si no cagues bé et daré un cop de bastó. caga tió!"…translated it means…poop log, poop Spanish Candy, hazelnuts and cottage cheese, if you don’t poop well, I’ll hit you with a stick, poop log!

Perhaps those of you in Church choirs or who are annual Carolers’ would like to try this song out this year!

All in all, this very unusual Christmas tradition is a nice break from leaving cookies and milk out for Santa ;)

The Fashion and music icon Lady Gaga is rocking out El Palau Sant Jordi tonight in Barcelona. She’s somewhat a new age Madonna or at least going to rob her of the title;). She’s done duets with some of the music industry’s biggest stars including Beyonce, and Akon. Don’t think she hides behind meat dresses etc she also has an amazing voice for some of her ballads as well.

So get you dancing shoes on because Gaga’s coming to town!!!
